Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. is truly a gem. My first experience at Arena was last summer when A Time to Kill premiered. Kern and I went back later in the year to see Oklahoma. We were blown away during both performances, so when I heard that Arena's 2012 summer season included The Music Man I jumped on a pair of tickets!
We made a great date night out of the play, enjoying a fun dinner beforehand and sweets and coffee during intermission.

Burke Moses (the original Gaston in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast) played Professor Harold Hill and Kate Baldwin (Finian's Rainbow) played the Librarian--Marian Paroo.

The cast was dynamic and energetic--my toes were tapping and I was mouthing the words. One of the neat things about the Fichandler stage (Arena has several stages throughout the building) is that is an arena type setting, which means there are elevated seats on all four side of the square platform. Not only does this help with viewing (no craning your neck to see over the tall person in the front row), but it also draws the audience in no matter where a particular seat is located.
{via} I'm already anxiously awaiting next season's scheduled shows, in particular, My Fair Lady, which will be playing during my birthday week. |
